What is REACH ?
REACH is a European regulation establishing a single integrated system for the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals, together with a European Chemicals Agency It was adopted on 13 December 2006 and comes into effect on 1 June 2007.
It is intended to increase knowledge of the properties and hazards of chemicals and the risks associated with their use, with the aim to better protect people and environment.
It includes several processes : registration ( 30 000 substances ), authorization ( 1500 substances ) and restrictions which apply on manufacturers and importers in Europe according to different conditions : whether it is a substance on their own, in preparations or in articles with criterion of tonnage, percentage, etc..
What is the Ferraz Shawmut position on REACH regulation?
Ferraz Shawmut is committed to apply this regulation progressively following its implementation plan as scheduled by the authorities as an article producer. This should occur until 2018.
